After an extensive regional search, AFC Mobile is proud to announce Sam Rehm as head coach for the 2024 GCPL season. Rehm will take the reins as just the fourth head coach in AFC Mobile’s history and the first after AFC Mobile returns from a one year hiatus.
Rehm has played for multiple club teams in the city and played high school soccer at McGill-Toolen. Sam is currently an assistant coach at McGill-Toolen and coaches in the AFC Mobile Academy.
Coach Rehm says his “Goal for this season is to pick up where we left before the hiatus and to keep building the AFC Mobile name with a winning season.” A returning AFC Mobile is looking to make a big impact in the Gulf Coast Premier League this 2024 season and looks to make a successful return to competitive soccer after taking the 2023 season off to restructure the operations of the back office. Sam’s expectations are high for the team as well as the team’s expectations for Sam. “Sam is a great guy and an amazing coach with every team we’ve observed him coach. He’s smart, has tons of motivation and sees the game with a very unique and fresh perspective that we’ve not had on the pitch before.” said Dustin Wilson, Board Member for AFC Mobile.
“We know the challenges we are facing this year playing at a new stadium, in a new league, without returning players and in front of fans who we haven’t seen in over a year. We felt Sam was the guy we needed to go get in order to pull it all together. Change and growth can only happen when we challenge the norm and push ourselves to grow. With Sam as the gaffer, I think we are well positioned to rise to the opportunities we have in front of us.” said AFC Mobile Board member Michael Lynch.
Traditionally, AFC Mobile head coaches have also been tasked with helping to run the Academy, however Guillermo Lumbreras Jr was recently promoted to Director of Coaching and was able to take those tasks and allow Sam to focus solely on coaching the first team.
Sam will be formally introduced to the fans at a launch party later in the year.
